Do It Yourself At Home Spa Tips

At Home Manicure

Pretty hands are happy hands, and doing your own manicure at home is really quite easy.  Soak your hands in a bowl of warm soapy water for about five minutes until your cuticles are soft.  Dry hands, and lightly push your cuticle back with a cuticle stick, and trim cuticles on each finger with cuticle scissors.  Next file your nails to your desired shape, being careful not to make nails to pointy as they can break easily.

Nail Tip #1.  Filing nails in one direction rather than back and forth, helps to cut down on breakage.

Wash hands in warm soapy water and pat dry.  Next add a clear base coat to protect your nails, let nails dry and add a coat of your desired color.  Let nails dry, then add another coat of color.  Let nails dry, then follow with another clear coat to finish.  When nails are completely dry add a moisturizing lotion to keep hands soft.  Followup once a week with an at home manicure to keep hands beautiful.

At Home Pedicure

Prepare your footbath with warm water, add in a capful of your choice of bath bubbles, and bath salts.  Soak feet for half and hour.  Rub a pumice stone gently across the bottom of each foot, removing any dead and loose skin.  Now add your favorite foot wash to a loofah, hand towel, or nylon mesh and wash your feet.  Rinse feet, and dry.  Trim nails, and shape.  Add your favorite polish.  After nails dry moisturize feet, and enjoy the softness.

At Home Spa Bath Soak

Light some candles, put on a soothing cd, and indulge in a spa-inspired bath soak treatment right in the comfort of your own home.  Gather your favorite scented bath bubbles, body wash, bath salts, a loofah, bath pillow, and a luxurious set of plush bath towels.  Now run a tub of water to your liking, pour in some bubbles, salts, and stir.  Light your candles in a safe place, put on your cd then step into your awaiting oasis of bliss.

At Home Massage

Just For You Personal Massage

A personal chair massager makes a great way to get a personal massage at home, and it's worth it to visit your local department store, and purchase one for yourself.  Homedics and Dr. Scholl's both have great chair massagers ranging from $29.95 and up.  If you want to save money, then Walmart is a great place to get a good massager for a few dollars.  Believe me it will pay for itself with the first use.  Be sure to look for features such as dual speed, heat, and areas that it will massage.  Pick up some great scented candles, a good relaxation cd, and head for the nearest quite nook at home.  Once you have your own personal chair massager, light your candles, put on your favorite cd, sit back, relax, and enjoy some good old fashioned time for yourself.  This is a wonderful gift that the whole family can enjoy.  In my home everyone schedules a little personal time with the chair massager, and it's terrific to see everyone enjoying a bit of personal pampering.  This is also a great item to use at work, and some even come with an adapter to use in your car.  What a treat!

Couple's Massage

15-20 Minutes For Per Person

This is a great way for couples to spend quality time helping each other to relax!  Set aside some quite time where you and your partner can be alone together.  Have on hand some great relaxing music, scented candles, body massage oil, spa towels, and a few chocolates.  It's ok if you are not a professional massous, as your task will be to simply learn what each of you likes when it comes to massage.  Take turns practicing with each other and be sure to rememeber that your goal is to have fun, and to unwind!  Add a bit of oil to your hands rubbing is back and forth to warm it, then begin massaging your partner.  You will want to begin massaging the muscles in a backwards and forwards motion using the back sides of your hands, and alternating with deeper massage with the palms of your hands, and your fingertips and thumbs.  When massaging the back it is permissable to use a cirrcular pattern with the palms of your hands for people who experience tight muscles, and or back strain.  The depth of massage will depend on your partner's liking.  Some people like deep tissue massage which works the muscles deeper, while others prefer a softer touch. Be sure to ask your partner what feels best as you go, and enjoy this artful display of relaxing, and connecting.  Finish with a warmed wet spa towel to wipe off excess oil!

Theraputic Infant Massage

5-10 Minutes

Put on baby's favorite lullaby music, and dress baby down to a onsie or diaper if the whether permits.  You can sit baby on your lap, or lye baby down on their tummy with his or her head to one side, and with a drop of oil or baby lotion warmed in your hands, gently massage the baby's back in a circular motion for a couple of minutes. Then lye baby on a comfy blanket, and with a bit more oil or lotion, and begin massaging baby's arm up and down with a backwards and forwards motion.  You can use both hands, or hold baby's arm with one hand, and massage with one hand.  Be sure to go up and down the length of each arm while gently massaging.  Next do baby's legs the same way gently massaging backwards and  forwards with a bit of warm oil or lotion.  I like to do bicycle legs when massaging the legs which is a great way to make it fun for baby.  Baby will enjoy this special attention, which is a great way to create a deeper bond with the infant.  This is also a wonderful way to help baby relax before bed, which aides in a restful sleep for all!

At Home Facial Skincare

Day Time Skin Care

1. To Clean:  Lightly remove night time accumulations by refreshing your face with a few splashes of water, and pat dry.

2. To Tone:  Apply a freshener or astringent.

3. To Moisurize:  If your face is excessively dry, mist or splash with water, blot, then lightly cover with moisturizer.

4.  Applying Makeup:  If you wear makeup, apply foundation lightly with a makeup sponge, and finish with color for eyes, cheeks, and lips.  Be sure to apply a lip moisturizer with sunscreen before applying lipstick.

Night Time Skin Care

1. To Cleanse:  Remove any makeup with cleansing cream or a natural makeup remover. Wash with mild soap or other cleanser, rinse, and pat dry.

2. To Tone:  Apply an acid-containing solution to restore the pH balance and protective shield. For dry skin, use a mild freshener-toner. For oily skin, use an astringent preparation.

3. To Moisturize:  Splash on cool water or mist with a spray bottle. Blot, but do not dry completely-moisturizer magic relies more on retaining moisture than in providing it-then smooth on a few drops of your moisturizer.

Weekly Facials

Once a week in the evening before bed, apply a facial mask or facial peel to help remove deep down dirt, and to uncover new skin cells.  When finished apply a moisturizer for baby soft skin.
